My Vision for Salt Spring

Dear Fellow Islanders: I am running for CRD Director because I want to give back to this community that has been my home for over 18 years. I am also running because I have a vision for the island that I think a lot of you share.

I see a Salt Spring which is easier and more enjoyable to walk, hike and cycle around, with a dedicated Fulford to Vesuvius bike lane and car traffic diverted around a beautified Ganges commons. I see a more vibrant and diverse local economy that reflects our unique island culture and employs more islanders. I see a Salt Spring with affordable, year round housing for everyone who lives here. I see a Salt Spring where the majority of the food we consume is grown on the island, and where we can drink the water because we've taken the action needed to protect this precious resource. I see a Salt Spring with respectful, collaborative processes in place for working out our differences and turning community challenges into opportunities. I invite you to join me in working together to meet the needs of all islanders.

What do you think the CRD's priorities on Salt Spring need to be over the next few years? What issues are important to you in this campaign? Please contact me with your comments and questions: 250-538-1911 or leslie@votelesliecrd.ca.

Five years ago, when the provincial government threatened to overhead pesticide spray Salt Spring for gypsy moth, I stood up for Salt Spring. I stood up for the health of islanders, I stood up for our drinking water sources, our lakes and our wells. I stood up for our farmers. I stood up for our right to do things in a way that worked for this community.

If elected as CRD Director on November 19, I will do my best to serve all islanders. I will listen to you; I will be accountable to you. I will work inclusively with all islanders, and I pledge to put the needs of this community, as determined by this community, as a whole ahead of the needs or wishes of any one group.

A VOTE FOR LESLIE IS A VOTE FOR:

Integrity and hard work

Accountability

Good Management and Financial Prudence

Innovative, positive approaches to community challenges

Policies and projects that increase our local resilience to rising fuel and food prices, the impact of climate change and economic uncertainty by building our capacity to be more self sufficient in the things we really need

Policies and projects that support young families and working people of all ages to make Salt Spring their permanent home. “I believe that a balanced demographic is the key to a resilient, healthy community. The future of our local economy depends on it.”

"At this time of increasing concern about our community water supplies in terms of costs, water quality and quantity, it is critical that we elect a CRD director to successfully guide us through an uncertain future. Leslie Wallace has my vote for Capital Regional District director."

MIKE LARMOUR, Beddis Road

"What Salt Spring Island needs in a CRD director is someone who can bring disparate groups together and help them work towards common goals. I know Leslie Wallace well, and I believe she has the commitment and capacity to do this. Her planning and organizational skills are impressive, and she has a genuine dedication and commitment to working for the good of the community as a whole."
